We service families in Waterford, White Lake, West Bloomfield, Keego Harbor, Orchard Lake, Sylvan Lake, Commerce, Walled Lake, Wolverine Lake and parts of Wixom. Referrals from other agencies are also accepted. Families who live outside of our service area will find some help and referrals to agencies in their home area.

We work to provide what is desperately needed.  This includes crisis funds for financial assistance, gas cards, vouchers for clothing and household items from our Thrift Store.

Vouchers

Open Door provides vouchers through out Thrift Store.  Low-income families or individuals in need can receive gently-used, clean, in-season clothing, coats, shoes, and household items at no cost.  Vouchers are available 3 times per year/seasonally or as needed.

Referrals

Open Door Outreach Center provides referrals to services in our community like housing, medical coverage and food stamps. We collaborate with other nonprofits, churches and agencies to provide support and help. We also guide people to what help may be available in our community. We compassionately support and guide people to move each family to hope and self-sufficiency.

Crisis Assistance

Open Door provides financial assistance, referrals to other collaborative nonprofits and emotional support to families experiencing emergency utility or housing needs, as funding permits.

We meet with people and learn they are often facing evictions, utility shutoffs, car breakdowns or medical problems.

When funding is available, we provide people with support - and we also collaborate with many other church partners to secure additional funding to prevent a crisis.  In addition, we help with referrals to other area services.

“We’ve had some people walk in crying, beaten down by life.”.

“People come to us who are in crisis, don’t know where to turn for help, stressed and scared. But our dedicated crisis assistance team works to help and show the way out of crisis.”

We also have gas cards that can help families in time of need.

Did you know we couldn’t do what we do without our church partners?

They include St. Patrick, Oakpointe, Christ Lutheran, The Lakes Community, Calvary Lutheran, Grace Community, Orchard Lake Community, St. Perpetua, St. Benedict, St. William, Our Lady of the Lakes, St. Vincent de Paul and Central United Methodist churches.
