Make a Difference

What would Open Door be without its selfless volunteers?

Walk in on any given weekday and you will see the volunteer crew stocking food shelves or assisting a client at the Outreach Center.

Over at our Open Door Thrift Store (located next door to our Food Pantry) volunteers are busy accepting and processing donations, stocking merchandise on the floor and welcoming a new customer or client.

Since 1980, hundreds of men, women, and children have stepped forward to make the Open Door Outreach Center available to struggling families in our community. We simply could not exist without the 125+ caring individuals who donate their time and talent to those in need.

They bless us with their time, talents and hearts every day.

They organize and oversee the majority of fundraisers, events and special programs.

They are the model for our “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” creed.

You could be one of those volunteers. The need is great and we invite you to donate a few hours a week or month. We train!

VOLUNTEER

We have flexible hours and appreciate part-time helpers who can contribute as few as 3 HOURS PER WEEK. Just want to help occasionally? We need you. All positions also have substitute positions available for occasional volunteering. If you care about others and have a little time to share, we will provide meaningful ways for you to contribute.

OTHER WAYS TO HELP

Besides Volunteering, How Can You Help?

  • TELL SOMEONE about Open Door Outreach Center's services and about our Thrift Store, Food pantry and Client services.
  • RECYCLE your gently-used clothing at the Resale Store and shop there too!
  • DONATE non-perishable foods, paper products, and hygiene items to our Food Pantry
  • ORGANIZE A FOOD DRIVE at work, on your block, at your child's school, etc.
  • REQUEST AN OPEN DOOR SPEAKER for a group, class, club, etc.

We are also asking you to think of unique ways to fundraise for us.

It could be a garage sale, scout project, class project or even friends working together at a lemonade stand!  Would your business or place of employment help?  Could you host a food drive? Or raise funds for us to feed and help others?

We will guide you and provide you with a tax voucher for your records.

Send us your ideas to us by using the Contact Us form.
